Christian Counselling

In this blog I would like to talk about when you go for counseling, and what makes a good counselor. The first thing I would like to talk about is what is the difference between a Christian and non-Christian counselor? A counselor who is not a Christian will counsel you concerning your psychological and emotional well-being, where as a Christian counselor will also counsel you on these two things, but in addition they will use the Word of God (the bible) and counsel you concerning how to live the Christian life, and what the bible says concerning your issues.

I know when I counsel folks I always stress the importance of one’s relational priorities, first relationship with God, second relationship with family, and third relationship with their job (or ministry).

Now when you go to a Christian counselor bring with you your bible, a notebook and a pen to take notes during the session. Before you go, write down things that you want to talk about and questions you may have for the counselor. If you are going with your spouse for marital counseling agree with each other that you will not argue during the sessions, as this is a waste of time and counterproductive, not to mention a waste of your money. Your counselor is not a referee! He is there to help you. It is also very important to have a humble attitude during counseling, and be submissive to the counselor’s advice and do the “homework” that he instructs you to do. I would appreciate any comments you may have below.

God bless you!
